Calgary is the green electricity capital. In a later date Calgary also plans to get rid of a portion of the city’s waste from landfills by 2020 and stay at or below the water use from 2003 even though the population is increasing.
The imagineCalgary program is a 100 year plan to decrease amounts of greenhouse gases with wind energy powered Ctrains. With the Ctrains people won’t need to waste as much money on gas for cars.
The problem is that it is very expensive to build wind mills to gather energy. Calgary also needs to find a good spot with wind.

Okotoks is the solar centre of Canada. Okotoks has a program called the Drake Landing Solar Community they are first subdivision in North America to warm 90% of its living space and water with the sun. The Drake Landing Solar Community is located on Okotoks Sunbelt which is the best spot to gather solar energy.
The problem is that since it is a solar hot spot more water turns to steam and evaporates. The way they solved this problem is putting a limit for water per-person to 70 litres. Since they have solar energy they won’t have that much greenhouse emissions.
Population 18 700
Yellowknife is the geothermal energy hot spot in Canada. Right now Yellowknife’s greenhouse gases per-person are the highest in the Northwest Territories.
Soon the greenhouse gases will go down due to Yellowknife’s Community Energy Plan. Municipal officials plan to use clean geothermal energy from the Con mine (abandoned mine shaft) to heat 2000 homes.
The problem is that they must develop a loop system to heat buildings which may take time to finish and it will take up a good chunk of money. Once it’s finished cost for heating homes and buildings will cost less than before.
